Suburban Journals reporter shot while covering meeting laid off

The Riverfront Times in St. Louis has an interview with Todd Smith -- the editor laid off from the Suburban Journals of St. Louis a few months after he was shot reporting on a city council meeting.

Sorry he is unemployed. But the Lee-Post-Dispatch has been dumber than dumb when it comes to the Suburban Journals. This is a paper that was free, and which most people considered litter at the end of the driveway. Somebody at the Lee-Post-Dispatch came up with the bright idea of charging for it. And since very few people were willing to pay, they now throw a bag of advertisements wrapped in a 1-page Suburban Journal shell. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Bad PR for Lee, and demoralizing for the employees who still work for the company.
